When you eat a grapefruit, what do you do with the seeds? I’m guessing you spit them out or remove them at the start. What if you were told that those grapefruit seeds, particularly in grapefruit seed extract (GSE) form, actually might hold a wealth of health benefits? Grapefruit seed extract comes from the fruit and seeds of grapefruit (the sub-tropical citrus fruit that grows all across the world), as such many cultures from South America to Europe and Asia use grapefruit seed extract as a tool to cleanse harmful organisms, as well as many other health benefits.
Why is Grapefruit Seed Extract So Powerful?
Grapefruit seed extract is rich in nutrients and phytochemicals. It’s a great source of plant antioxidants; one of which includes hesperidin, a natural immune system stimulant. Grapefruit seed extract also contains vitamin C, sterols, tocopherols, citric acid, limonoids, and trace minerals.
Grapefruit Seed Extract and Harmful Organisms
All over the world, GSE has been used for killing a wide variety of bacteria (such as: Salmonella, E.Coli, Staph and Strep germs), viruses, herpes, parasites, and fungi, including Candida. It is effective against more than 800 bacterial and viral strains, 100 strains of fungus, as well as a large number of single-cell and multi-celled parasites. It has also proven to be effective against food poisoning and diarrhea. Many professionals, such as doctors, veterinarians, farmers and consumers praise its value and effectiveness.
GSE can be combined with many herbs without creating adverse interactions. In fact, the antimicrobial properties of GSE helps the herbs remain more stable and potent for a longer period of time.
Inexpensive compared to prescription antibiotics, GSE is so effective that typically only a small amount is necessary. With the increase of antibiotic use has also come the increase of more antibiotic-resistant bacteria. However, there is no evidence that microorganisms build up a tolerance to GSE.
Dr. llan Sachs D.C., C.C.N., Chiropractor and Certified Clinical Nutritionist, in his book “The Authoritative Guide to Grapefruit Seed Extract” states: “Many holistic physicians, myself included, consider Candida Albicans one of the greatest health challenges to people of the industrialized nations. The broad spectrum anti-fungal properties of GSE have made it an important part of successful anti-Candida programs – a fact that has linked the names Candida and Grapefruit Seed Extract. With the help of GSE, thousands of individuals have overcome the multiple effects of Candida”. (also known as “candidiasis”)
Grapefruit Seed Extract Benefits
Serves as strong anti-oxidant
Kills Antibiotic-Resistant UTIs
Remedies Fungal Infections
Treats Digestive Disturbances Associated with Eczema
Works as a General Antimicrobial
Anti-oxidative properties of GSE
The research facility of COHL tested water extract of GSE (manufactured by PureBulk, 10:1 Extract) on validated Wheat Kernel plant model treated with 50% Acidic water (pH=4.0) known as a strong oxidizer causing oxidative stress. On Figure 1 we can see that 50% Acidic water had a profound inhibiting effect on seeds germination process in comparison with treatment with a regular Tap/filtered water or with a group when water extract of GSE was added in a total concentration of 1 mg/mL. After treatment with GSE extract, plants were able to grow normally in 50% Acidic water. This figure demonstrates the strong properties of GSE as an anti-oxidant.
GSE’s extensive list of healing and disinfecting properties, makes this product an important addition to everyone’s medicine cabinet, vitamin shelf, and assortment of disinfectants, whether traveling or at home.
