Calendula: A beautiful amber coloured flower or a little bit more?

A plant extract of Calendula has been used throughout history in skin preparations. Calendula is beneficial for dry or damaged skin.  Calendula also promotes fast healing and regeneration of the skin thanks to it’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial: Calendula has healing, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. In earlier times, it was often used to disinfect wounds, and treat burns and skin infections (like ringworms and athlete’s foot). Documented reports also reveals that in earlier times, calendula oil was even used as a treatment against staphylococcus infections. This was due to the oil effectively killing the nasty bacteria that ate away at the flesh.

Currently the essence, extract or oil of calendula, is incorporated into emollients and washes to fortify healing effects. Calendula-infused products are currently used by people who want to naturally aid the healing process for wounds. It is also commonly used to treat acne, dermatitis, diaper rashes, dry skin, eczema, insect bites, and hemorrhoids.

Antioxidant rich: Calendula is rich in antioxidants such as carotenoids and vitamin A pre-cursors. These antioxidants help to wipe away free radicals which can cause premature aging. Calendula is also very rich in tocopherols, or vitamin E, another antioxidant with amazing skin softening abilities. In addition, some preliminary studies indicate that the linolenic acid in calendula oil may also help reduce photo aging from the sun.

Brightening and regenerating: Calendula has an all-natural skin brightener, which is effective at reducing the appearance of scars. Studies reveal that the extract of this herb blossom can stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is very important in proper skin regeneration. For those with dull skin and want to regain their youthful, glowing skin, calendula-infused toners and moisturizers can surely do the trick.

Healing Properties: One of the best reasons to keep calendula handy is due to its healing abilities. If you apply calendula flower oil to your cuts, scrapes, bruises, and insect bites, you can quickly speed the healing process. This is partially due to the anti-inflammatory properties of the oil, as well as the unique antioxidant compounds found in this miraculous plant. By protecting against infections, it keeps wounds and scrapes safe, allowing them to rapidly and naturally heal.

Oral Health: Calendula also has certain antibacterial properties, that have made it very popular in recent years. You will often find it listed within the ingredients list of various herbal health and hygiene products. These products include: toothpastes, mouthwashes, soaps, and shampoos. In terms of oral health, toothpastes and mouthwashes that contain calendula are very effective in killing bacteria that cause everything from gingivitis to cavities.

Improve the Appearance of Skin: Aside from stimulating healing, calendula oil can significantly boost the appearance of your skin. It can affect blood flow to the skin cells, provide antioxidant protection that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and ages spots, and even the visibility of scars. If you want smooth, even-toned skin that glows with youthful vitality, consider adding some organic products that contain calendula.  Calendula can also be consumed in another form, such as tea.

Vision Health: Research has shown that calendula contains certain antioxidant compounds that directly impact your vision. Cancer Prevention: Calendula oil has certain anti-tumor properties that make it very valuable in new cancer research, which are exploring natural solutions to this global epidemic. Cancer remains one of the great mysteries of our species in terms of collective health. Compounds like those found in calendula offer an interesting new angle on this critical issue. It certainly can’t hurt to try!
